Abstract

Taking into account how fast technology advances, as well as how quickly the range of user needs grows when it comes to software functionality and accessibility, it is possible to see that open source packages can represent a very attractive option for users who do not want to pay a large amount of money in order to have access to various functions that are necessary for their daily computer use. In this sense, one of the biggest problems that arises is the very compatibility of the final products of those open source packages in relation to those that have to be paid for. This kind of problem can often discourage users who in such circumstances often resort to piracy as a way to overcome it. However, the question arises whether it always has to be so, and whether it is possible to achieve full or almost full compatibility with widely used software that can be encountered
